Manuel article

November 5, 2009

I really liked this article. It gives Charlie Manuel his due, something that usually only the fans recognize. Kind of amazing that we had a shot to win the whole thing, considering the differences between this year’s team and last year’s. Not so much in actual people, but in how those people performed.

Game ended. Phillies lost.

I have some pretty great luck predicting games, so I’m definitely not doing that. Here are some thoughts I have on Game 6 though:

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’m currently moving home from Germany, which means I’ve been very busy. I couldn’t even stay up to watch the World Series game last night after running myself ragged for a few days. I have some quick thoughts on Game 4 though.

das Skiz reviews: Game 2

October 30, 2009

If you saw game 2, it had the same feeling that all of the recent Phillies playoff losses have had. There was that sense that we were just waiting for the other team to take the lead, and that tonight just wasn’t our night. AJ Burnett was absolutely nasty last night. His curveball was ridiculous, and he was getting the calls on the ‘corner’ (obviously by corner here I mean the Atlanta Braves mid 90s corner). Anyway, what else did I see:

die Katze predicts: Game 2

October 29, 2009

Catherine is predicting 5-3 Phillies to be the final score of tonight’s game. She say she thinks the Yankees will put up a bigger fight, but the result will be the same. I’m thinking it’s 10-5 Phils. Post your predictions in the comments!

das Skiz reviews: Game 1

October 29, 2009

Last night I tried to fall asleep before the game, so that I could wake up early in the morning and watch it, instead of staying up until 4AM watching the game. I ended up falling asleep around 12, waking up at 250AM, then had to wait until the game ended so I could watch it. When I woke up at 250, I was so excited that I knew right then there was 0 chance of going back to bed. But I couldn’t start watching the game then, since that would have been about 2/3rds of the way through. I’m running on about 2 hours + 2 hours of sleep today, and a shitton of Phillies adrenaline. Here’s what I saw, slightly after you saw it:

I know a lot is being made about homeruns, starting pitching, closers, etc., but I think Chad Durbin is going to have to be a huge part of a Phillies win. I know I’m sounding like every announcer that I hate by making a prediction, but here’s why I’m thinking what I’m thinking.

  • Durbin has pitched 4.0 innings of perfect relief.
  • In Game 5 of the NLCS, he got out, in order, Ramirez to end an inning, then Kemp, Loney, and Martin to cover the next inning.  Score was 6-3 when he took the field.
  • In Game 2 of the NLCS, he retired Manny Ramirez with the bases loaded in a 2-1 game
  • In Game 3 of the NLDS, with the score tied at 5 in the bottom of the 8th, Durbin retired the side, 1-2-3.
  • He has 2 wins in the postseason

Durbin is a righty out of the Phillies bullpen, which now also has Brett Myers.  Myers is sort of an unknown quantity, but Durbin has proven himself during this playoffs, acting as the Phillies’ Manny Ramirez assassin in the NLCS.  Durbin will probably be called upon to handle A-Rod in a similar situation.

So Philly fans, when you get right down to it, the World Series may rest on Chad Durbin’s ability to retire A-Rod in a couple huge spots.  Wow.  162 games, 2 postseason series, and it might just come down to Chad Durbin.

Here’s an article from the Phillies website talking about the origins of all the players, and I mean everybody. However, this dude totally doesn’t have a Tenure, a Tenure Ratio, or a Tenure Per Player. He hasn’t even created one new stat. I created 3 (inspired by Brendan). If I were to create a new stat called, Stats das Skiz Created That This Guy Did Not Ratio (SdSCTTGDNR), my SdScTTGDNR would be 3-0.

This page also includes payroll information, where I learned something fun.

Without looking, guess which one of these guys makes the most money from each group:
Jeter, Teixeira
Burnett, Sabathia, Rivera
Brett Myers, Chase Utley
Lidge, Rivera
A-Rod, Sultan of Brunei
Eric Bruntlett, Joba Chamberlain
Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton

New York Yankees

October 27, 2009

First, I went back and edited the pitching stats in the Revised Phillies article. So go read that first.

OK, as promised, here are the Tenure, Tenure-Ratio, and Tenure per batter ratings for the New York Yankees. After I figure all this out, we’ll at least have something for a comparison. Then I can start figuring out what these stats mean.

Here are the 2009 New York Yankees. Also, I’m not super familiar with the team (what with Germany and all), so if I’ve made a glaring error in the starting lineup, lemme know.
